EDUCATION: Master of Science in Computer Science, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada (September 1989 - November 1990). Received the Governor-General's gold medal for the most outstanding Master's student that year. Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computer Science and Mathematics, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada (July 1985 - May 1988). Received the Governor-General's silver medal for the highest marks in the graduating classes of the Faculties of Arts and Science. Also made the top 50 on the North-America-wide Putnam Math Contest. EXPERIENCE: IXIA Software Developer November 2009 - present Vancouver, Canada AGILENT TECHNOLOGIES Software Developer November 1999 - October 2009 Vancouver, Canada One of the lead software developers for Agilent's N2X test system, used by network equipment manufacturers and service providers worldwide to do testing and troubleshooting on Internet routers, with $60 million in sales in 2005. The N2X provides integrated testing of both packet forwarding and routing protocols over high-speed interfaces. The system controller runs Windows; the software is written using C++, COM, and MFC, and there's a Tcl-based API for test automation. Part of the team that initially developed the N2X, participating in product definition, software architecture, design, implementation, and release. Participated in numerous follow-on projects, with particular responsibility for the GUI. With one other developer, did a major rewrite of the N2X GUI to support generic packet definitions, allowing arbitrary packets to be defined and transmitted at line rate from the GUI. Also maintained and extended a key part of the N2X GUI which provides a generic GUI for protocol emulations, allowing new emulations to be added with no new GUI code. Ixia acquired the N2X product line from Agilent in October 2009. HEWLETT-PACKARD Software Developer November 1990 - November 1999 Edmonton and Vancouver, Canada Developed software for the Broadband Series Test System and PT Series protocol testers. Part of the team that initially developed the Broadband Series, a modular ATM tester. Based on VXI mainframe with UNIX controller; software written using C and X/Motif. Also worked on the PT Series protocol tester, a portable WAN tester. Software written in FORTH and C on 68000-based multiprocessor platform, using a proprietary OS. Developed GUI for controlling Gigabit Ethernet traffiic generation and doing automated performance measurements on HP's Internet Advisor, using Visual C++ and MFC. Based in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Agilent was spun off from Hewlett-Packard in November 1999. IDACOM ELECTRONICS LTD., Edmonton, Canada Software Developer May 1988 - August 1989 Implemented two X.25 conformance test suites for the PT Series protocol tester, using FORTH, for a European Commission contract. Based in Darmstadt, West Germany. Implemented X.25 emulation, using C, as part of a joint research project with the University of British Columbia to build an X.400 MHS tester. Based in Vancouver, Canada. IDACOM was acquired by Hewlett-Packard in August 1990.
